A very recent auction win for a box of interesting stuff.
Innocence.

Edit:
More scans.
(Photos by Margaret Clarke who was a photographer from the Southend area in Essex, UK.)
And some more scans from the same collection.

And is this him walking on the street, in later years? I wonder . . .
All in a box of rubbish. It really saddens me to think photographic treasures like these, a family history in great photos are being dumped. Truly tragic.

I just can't help thinking that when you combine the top and bottom pictures you get a pretty chilling scene from one of my favourite movies

I see what you mean!
ReplyDeleteThese are just so good Ken
ReplyDeleteGreat find Ken,love these old pictures. And yes,I agree it is a tragedy that family stuff is being dumped like this. Who knows, maybe there are no more family members left?Even sadder....
ReplyDeleteI have a Margaret Clarke photo - a beautifully composed wedding photo. It's quite a mystery as the people in it are obviously rather poor, but she has taken such care over it. You can see she has burned in some areas to lead the eye towards the couple at the centre, but it is the composition that is so artful: at first sight it is heavily symetrical, but then you see how cleverly she has ballanced all the elements. She has signed it on the front. It is mounted in a bakelite frame. I bought it at a car boot fair 20 years ago, and I still like to look at it/
ReplyDeleteOh wow Noel! That's great. Margaret certainly knew how to take beautiful photos for sure.
DeleteA great story and thank you for sharing it. (I'll have to keep an eye out for more of her work)
