I was reading a post by Dee over on her blog chunk of choc about the death of the high street which got me thinking about Jessops (Well it is a photogrpahy blog)
Jessops was started in 1935 by Frank Jessop, in Leicester. Three years later in Oldham Doris & Joan Opened there hair Salon. Oldham is a satellite town of Manchester, Doris & Joans Salon is in a suburb of Oldham near Saddleworth (where the moors are). They'll have been deep in snow this last week, they're not to far away from England's highest motorway point (1221 feet above sea level brags the sign).
You'll not find & Doris & Joan in Blue Water or The Trafford Centre. There up there in windy old Oldham, no management buy outs, they haven't expanded (over) to 200 stores like Jessops. Doris & Joan are still relevant to their community, Jessops not so.
It's true when Dee says that you don't know what you've got until it's gone.
A business has to think about there customers in exactly the same way. You have to stay relevant, essential, loved even. Still, that's no guarantee of success, but you'll only last so long without them. It's been a while since Jessops had any of those qualities.

Just a step
But a big one. Last year was like a place of hiding, hassle to get out anywhere. Body and mind was in pain, so time to think lots and not take many photos. I did a lot of meditation (still do). Exercise? I know I should.
This I feel sums up what this year is going to be about for me.

The Passage Of Time

Nov 2010. City Screen York |
Not using the interweb is a lot like using the interweb, it becomes a habit. I'd like to say that it's been good for my photography but I suspect that I'm just nine months older and none the wiser. I've bought myself a fancy new chair that I could sit in for a week and not get back ache and a new keyboard and mouse (fancy I might add)
I haven't took a picture since November, so this net break hasn't increased the quantity and more crucially, it hasn't increased the quality of my photography either. So I'm going to have to try plan A again

Photography is a kind of time machine, but you can't go back to what was never captured. That is something that has sunken in... Over time

A new year
So glad to hear back from the Keanes. 2013 will be one hell of a year. No idea how this blog will go over that time, but I'm sure it'll be honest and good.

A big surprise
Yesterday afternoon a single Christmas card dropped through
our door. The best card ever. Thank you Sean and Diane! I really thought you
two had gone for good and I’m so happy to hear otherwise.
Wishing you both a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
